In one sentence
Incipit Games makes beautiful pixel-art games for the Catholic imagination. Its first titles are Lumen, a candlelit manuscript mystery for phones, and Holy Keys, a typing adventure for children through Scripture and chant.
In a paragraph
Incipit Games takes its name from the first words of a medieval manuscript: incipit, here begins. The studio makes hand-drawn pixel-art games that are faithful to the Church and fun before anything else, built on real Scripture, real chant and real history. Its games carry no ads, no loot boxes and no third-party tracking. Everything is made ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
THE GAMES
Lumen: The Drowned Abbey
Coming soon, $3 · Phones
Hold your phone like a candle and restore the scraped manuscripts of a drowned Galician abbey.
In 1835 the abbey of Vallis Tacita disappeared under a lake. This summer the drought gives it back. Lumen is a pixel-art mystery in which the player tilts the phone to rake candlelight across scraped vellum, reading a thousand years of keepers one layer at a time, while a restorer who stopped going to church finds the way home. One price, $3, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Holy Keys
Free to play for now · Web browsers with a keyboard, including Chromebooks
A 16-bit Catholic typing adventure for grades 1 to 8.
Holy Keys teaches children to touch type by copying psalms, prayers and verses in a medieval abbey. Every correct keystroke copies Scripture, rings a bell, or sings the next note of a chant. Eight regions follow the keyboard from the home row to the Upper Room, with nine arcade games, classrooms for teachers, and a Sanctuary where prayer is never scored.
An illuminated I, written in vermilion and gilded, whose top catches fire: the first letter becomes a candle.
